Origins & Connections: comes from Sweden. The project name Negru Voda represents the name of the founder of Wallachia (lower Romania) around 1290. Negru Voda can be translated as Black Prince.

Activity Periods & Styles: since 1992 plays industrial noise

Best Musical Skills: machinery industrial rhythms

Short Bio & Review: Peter Nyström started Negru Voda in late 1992, as a side-project to Megaptera, where he would be free to follow through on all of his musical ideas without compromise. Heavily influenced by pioneering electronic and industrial acts like Test Department, S.P.K., Laibach, Cabaret Voltaire, The Klinik, Front 242, Controlled Bleeding and Severed Heads, The Negru Voda sound is based on strong rhythms and analog sounds, various electronic gear and field recordings of various origin. It is by no means polished or refined, but rather throbbing raw lo-fi noise in all it’s uncompromising glory. Having worked for nearly 13 years at the steelworks in his hometown of Oxelösund, Peter is more than familiar with the real industrial noise of one of Scandinavia’s largest steelworks. Negru Voda has released a couple of full-length albums as well as a few split and collaboration albums. In 2011 a 3 disc compilation was released with new and re-mastered material.

Additional Info: Peter is also involved in other projects like: Instant Cold Commando, Obscene Noise Korporation, Negru Pvlse.

Activity Periods & Styles: since 1992 plays atmospheric black and extreme metal.

Best Musical Skills: guitars and atmoshere

Short Bio & Review: Wallachia is a music project from Steinkjer and was formed by Lars Stavdal in 1992. The band recorded a demo in 1996 which got very positive feedback from the underground metal scene at that time. Shortly after that a re-recording session (in studio) of the Demo was released in the form of an EP named simply Wallachia. The first full-length was released in 1999. Since then the band practically did not released any new composed material although the band was still active. In 2009 after delays the second full-length album was released, this time the style changed in a more symphonic way but the music was still recognizable as Wallachia. There is enough material written for new albums that are planned to be released soon.

Additional Info: the project members are also active in other projects, most notable beeing Golden Dawn.

Band(s) Alike / Related: Bucium (RO)

Origins & Connections: Band from Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Activity Periods & Styles: “The band started slowly as a studio project in 2010, having at first only a 4-5 songs demo recording in plan. The main reason to start this way is that a band cannot aim high or represent any interest to the local scene until there are at least some demo quality songs to be presented to the local public on social networks (Facebook, Reverbnation or Myspace). The recording of the demo begun in late 2010 in a formula of three, the bass being recorded on the first three tracks by session musicians. In the summer of 2011, Mircea Petreus joined the band as a bass player and shortly after that, the last two songs on the demo were recorded. The goal of this band was to create something new, something that could combine different genres into a new sound. After many musical experiments in songwriting regarding subjects, atmosphere and sounds used, the band crystallized a sound represented by heavy guitars and strong rhythmics, symphonic and industrial keyboard sounds, all combined with a classical soprano voice. A symphonic/industrial metal hybrid. On the 30th of December 2011,The Hourglass released online the first self-produced studio material, “Requiem”, a 5 songs demo that represents a mixture of feelings, harmonies and styles. From a ballad (In Remembrance) to a strong industrial metal influenced song (The Fall), they tried to explore the strongest human beliefs and feelings. The spring of 2012 brings the last missing member in the band: Ioana Dirva, a pianist drawn by the idea of playing on a synthesiser and trying a different musical approach. After a strong live debut as an opening act for Theatres des Vampires (Italy) in Cluj-Napoca, one of the founder members, Vlad Negrea (guitar) left the band for personal reasons in April 2012, followed by Mircea Petreus, three months later. Even so, the formula of five was completed quick, without affecting the band’s rehearsals schedule and upcoming concerts. With Andrei Buciuta (guitar) and Traian Toderean (bass), The Hourglass is complete again, ready to rock the local stage (and more) with the new members and compositions.” – Source: band website.

Best Musical Skills: female vocals & guitars

Short Bio & Review: The Hourglass is a symphonic/gothic/industrial metal band, formed in 2010 by Alma Vomastek (vocals, keyboards, songwriting, lyrics), Bogdan Mara (drums) and Vlad Negrea (guitar), in the city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The name was carefully chosen to represent a connection between old and new, classical and modern (musically speaking) and also, to keep a general idea that everything that has a beginning, also has an end.

Additional Info: The band goes on the steps of bands like Magica and Nightwish with additional industrial elements.
